cSpeed tests the quality of your browsing experience by directly measuring how much time it takes to load a list of popular Webpages. It also provides comparisons of the load times of other users globally as well as in your city, showing you how the test times of users of other ISPs compare to yours. It also uses your rough location to estimate the time it would take to browse the Internet at the speed of light from your location!
cSpeed does not collect any personal Web-browsing information. We do record your IP address, ISP, city, and browser user-agent (which includes your operating system and browser version). We also run a small computational test to measure javascript performance.
Developed by: Xuefeng Zhu, Ankit Singla, Brighten Godfrey at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. cSpeed is part of a larger research collaboration also involving Duke University researchers Bruce Maggs and Bala Chandrasekaran.
