Description

1. Introduction

Most people don't know how important it is to have strong passwords. It is also recommended to have multiple passwords and to change them regularly, but people (including me) don’t want the bother of having to remember complicated passwords.
To solve this problem we developed the Password Keychain App.

2. Why use it

If you want to have strong passwords that cannot be hacked and don’t want to have to remember them, you will definitely want this App.

With password generating functionality you can generate different password lengths with different character set (lower and upper case, numbers and special characters). Of course you can also manually add your own (old) password.

Let’s say you have a password comprised of 8 characters and use only lower case letters. The supercomputer can defeat this kind of password within 0.0000020883 seconds and a normal PC can do it within 0.0417654129 seconds.

3. How to use it

When you install this App, you will first want to register. Enter your email, master password (PIN), secure question and secure answer. Secure question and answer are needed in case you forget your master password (PIN) so you can recover it.

After you click the button "Register Now" you will receive an email with a confirmation code. At the same time a pop-up window will appear in the Password Keychain App where you will be required to enter this code in order to complete your registration.

After you register you will be able to create new passwords and use all the App’s features like one-click copy, secure password display, etc.


4. How it works

All the passwords are encrypted with the AES encryption standard and your master password (PIN) is the key to lock and unlock them. This means that no one else knows your passwords. Even if a hacker or a government body gains access to the database, they will not be able to decrypt your passwords if you don’t give them your master password (PIN).

Your master password (PIN) is hashed with SHA-512 cryptographic hash function. In simple terms this also means no one will know your master password (PIN) except you, even if they obtain (un)legal access to the database.

What does all of this mean? It means that your passwords and other information are safely stored with high security precautions.

FAQ:
Q: What if my computer gets stolen? Will I lose all my passwords?
A: No! Just install this App on another computer and login with your email and master password (PIN).

Q: I use a shared (family) computer. Will this App work in my case?
A: Yes! When you need any of your stored passwords, simply login into this App. When you are done, just logout and/or close the App.

Q: How do I really know that my passwords are encrypted?
A: Open your browser and go to this URL: http://keychain.karantan.si/user/YOUR_EMAIL
You will be able to see your encrypted passwords and other data that are stored for you.
