W&M Rate My Professor Extension

Rate my professor recently updated their webpage and the extension was broken for a few days. The most recent update has fixed this - thank you for your understanding.

This is a chrome extension that modifies the result pages from William and Mary's Open Course List (https://courselist.wm.edu/courselist/) to include the ratings associated with each professor from RateMyProfessor.com. For each professor that can be matched to a webpage, the Overall, Helpfulness, Clarity, and Easiness ratings are injected into the course list table, as well as a link to the professor's complete page so that reviews can be seen as well. It does this automatically - all you need to do is install and enable the extension.

There are certain professors whose names are not listed on Rate My Professor as they are on the open course list. For example, "Deborah Noonan" is "Debbie Noonan" on Rate My Professor. For a few of these individuals, I have manually directed the information from their unique RMP webpage. If you spot any of these individuals who have pages, but my extension can't find their page for whatever reason, feel free to get in contact with me and I'll add them in.

This project took a few days and I did it to practice my familiarity with HTML, CSS, Javascript and JQuery. The end result works as intended, but because Rate My Professor does not have a public API from which I could have gathered this information, I had get it all by web scraping. This will surely shorten the longevity of this extension's usefulness, unless I, or the other programmers at W&M that I'll share this with update it as RMP's and the W&M Open Course List's pages change. I welcome all suggestions and improvements.
