Коротко: переходит на один уровень в структуре сайта вверх.
UPD 0.3: значок заменён на стрелку "вверх" для наглядности.
UPD 0.5: технический переход на формат manifest 2.

Иногда, перейдя по ссылке, вы попадаете на страницу "404 Not Found", но страница вовсе не была удалена, а всего лишь перемещена или переименована. Или вам просто хочется пойти на один уровень вверх по сайту.

Это расширение позволит вам укорачивать URL таким образом, что вы будете перемещаться вверх по структуре сайта. Например, последовательное нажатие кнопки расширения будет перемещать вас в такой последовательности:
http://www.domain.com/directory/page.html
http://www.domain.com/directory/
http://www.domain.com/
И в итоге вы найдёте нужную вам страницу.

Sometimes a link will lead you to a "Not Found" - the page is gone - but the page isn't really gone, the site owner has just moved it to a different place. Or you just wnat to go one level up in the website.

This extention gives you a fast way to search for the page by shortening the URL, so you see progressively shallower parts of the site. For example, repeated use of this extention would take you to the following URLs:
http://www.domain.com/directory/page.html
http://www.domain.com/directory/
http://www.domain.com/
You may find a reference to the page at a shallower level.
