NOTE: Google and Yahoo search no longer works in frames. This extension now uses StartPage.com which uses the google engine but runs in frames, and yahoo has been substituted with blekko.
Press Ctrl + Alt +g in any tab to quickly overlay StartPage.com search (Uses google results). When done, click the 'X' at the top right of the overlay or anywhere in the gray outside the overlay.

Ctrl + Alt +d overlays Dictionary
Ctrl + Alt +w overlays Wikipedia
This extension requires no memory or CPU and does not constantly run in the background; it just simply modifies the page to wait for the ctrl + alt + g/b/y/dw key combinations.
Use this extension if you don't want to keep a tab open specifically for searching. Just press one of the key combinations to make a quick search.
