This extension adds a context menu item when text is highlighted. There is another added while text is being read. There is a shortcut with ctrl+shift+space that will start/stop reading as well.
The extension reads all text across multiple lines so some formats prove troublesome (eg a reddit comment thread with small links between chunks of text).
known bugs:
text containing "<" will stop reading at that character (possibly other characters that are not escaped)
