StumbleUpon is a commercial web search service that combines the principles of p2p and social networking with "one-click" blogging. The free toolbar for the web browser provided by the system automates the collection, dissemination and review of web content within an informal social structure, giving users a viewing method similar to switching TV channels.
StumbleUpon combines a set of human opinions with machine learning to personal preferences and creates virtual communities of like-minded web surfers. Valuated sites are recorded in a personal profile (blog) and generate networks of surfers united by common interests. These social networks coordinate the distribution of web content, so that users "stumble" on the pages recommended by their friends and "classmates." This collaborative content research automates the exchange of tips and simplifies network navigation.
