What are numbers? Do they really exist or are they just fictional, mathematical concepts in our mind? No one ever saw a ‘three’ or a ‘ten’, but everything we know about the world thanks to science is based on the use of numbers. We’ve numbered our weeks, our months and sometimes, even our days are numbered.

What we do know is that the ancient civilization of the Sumerians are credited with the first recorded use of the seven day week. They looked up and saw the ‘moving stars’ the sun, the moon and Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn. They called them planets, from the Greek word Planetes meaning wanderers, and named the days after the celestial spheres they saw in the sky. So now you know a little bit more about why this week has this number.
