Description

Plus codes are short references for locations. They can be used to refer to places that don't have street addresses.

Plus codes are generated using code from the open source project Open Location Code. Because they're open source, plus codes can be used by anyone, for free. They work offline, and their grid can even be printed on paper. See https://plus.codes for an example.

Plus codes are based on latitude and longitude, and typically consist of 10 digits with a plus sign. For example, the location "27.174938,78.042188" is encoded as "7JVW52FR+XV". (These are called "global codes", because there is only one of them in the world.)

If there is a nearby town or city, you can shorten the code by dropping the first four letters.

These are called "local codes" and work similarly to a street name and number.

The local code of "7JVW52FR+XV" is 52FR+XV in Agra, India. Local codes repeat roughly every 110km, the town or city clarifies which one is meant.

This add-on provides the following functions (Sheets will display popup help as you type them):

PlusCodeEncode - to convert latitude and longitudes into global codes.
PlusCodeDecode - to decode global codes to their locations.
PlusCodeToLocal - to shorten global codes to local codes.
PlusCodeRecoverGlobal - to recover global codes from local codes.

Here is a sheet with examples of how to use the functions:

What has inspired us?

Extore is a team of professionals who are passionate about creating extensions for web browsers. This devotion also gives us opportunity to appreciate work of other people. We get inspired by useful, open source extensions made by developers all over the world. Our strong belief is that one should share helpful add-ons with others. That’s why we’d like to present you our ever-growing list of favourite extensions that have inspired us. Moreover, as you probably have already learned, sometimes struggling for the best brings an end to the good. Talking about add-ons it often turns out that an upgrade is worse then previous version. Also it can become really tricky to get back to the beloved version of your favourite extension. That’s why we’re going to make not only the latest, but all versions of our favourite (and we hope yours too) add-ons available for download. No more compromises, just stick to the version you really like!
