Description

Diff Text is a free online tool which compares and finds the differences between two blocks of text or strings pasted into its web page. It is essentially a clipboard diff text tool.

As it is web-based it works for all operating systems including Windows, Apple Macintosh OS X, Linux, Unix and Android.

Unlike the majority of text compare utilities, Diff Text systematically detects moved text. Moved up text is colored blue. Moved down text is colored gray. Deleted and added text is colored red and green respectively.

If the software detects sentence or word re-ordering within a paragraph the background color will alternately change from yellow to light blue.

It allows you to specify whether you compare at the level of whole intact lines (or paragraphs), words or characters.

If you don't want the software to look for moved text, it runs in logarithmic, rather than quadratic, time.

When detecting moved text, obviously if the tool worked at the level of individual characters or words, too many moved regions would be reported. You can specify the minimum number of adjacent words or characters that will be looked at for moves. For this to work you must be comparing at the level of words or characters and not at the level of whole lines.

The software has navigation from one difference to another. More powerfully this text compare tool can omit all identical lines from its report, leaving just the differences. In this way you can see all the differences at once. You can also specify the number of lines of context shown on either side of each difference

Diff Text contains a novel text difference algorithm written from scratch.
