The Boston Celtics are an NBA basketball franchise based in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. Founded on June 6, 1946, the club played three seasons in the Basketball Association of America (BAA), which in 1949 became the National Basketball Association (NBA). The Boston Celtics are the oldest NBA franchise, which has also changed neither name nor location since its inception.
After a difficult start, the Boston Celtics enjoyed a great time in the late 1950s winning a series of eight consecutive national champion titles, a performance never repeated in an American sport. Bob Cousy, Bill Russell and Tom Heinsohn are the main craftsmen of this period as well as the legendary and creative coach Red Auerbach. A few years later, Boston won two new titles thanks to John Havlicek and Dave Cowens among others. The club knows a second period at the top of the NBA with Larry Bird then goes down to the depths of the rankings. The last NBA title won in the 2007-2008 NBA season shows the Celtics return to the highest level.

Also a finalist in the 2009-10 season, the Boston basketball franchise is currently coached by Brad Stevens. During the 2010-2011 season, the Boston Celtics become the first team in NBA history to have in their ranks four players who scored more than 20,000 points (Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, Ray Allen and Shaquille O'Neal ). Five Celtics players (Bob Cousy, Bill Russell 5 times, Dave Cowens, Larry Bird 3 times and Kevin Garnett) have won the NBA Most Valuable Player Award for the best player of the season for a record 11 MVP2 awards.

Nicknamed C's, the Celtics remain the most successful franchise in the league with 17 trophies. They have a great rivalry with the Los Angeles Lakers (16 trophies) and have met twelve times in the final (the Celtics have won nine against the Lakers three), the last time in 2010.
