Description

"Hands down this is the number one must have Chrome extension" - http://blog.billauer.com/2010/08/03/password-hasher-plus/

"If only there was a way for your computer to create cryptographically secure password that is different for every web-site and yet doesn't have to be stored somewhere. Well, there is and it's called a "hashed password"."

What good security practice demands: Strong passwords that are hard to guess;
Different passwords at each site; Periodically changing existing passwords.

Why you probably aren't practicing good security: Strong passwords are difficult to remember; Juggling a multitude of passwords is a pain; Updating passwords compounds the memorization problem.

How Password Hasher helps:
Automatically generates strong passwords;
One master key produces different passwords at many sites;
Quickly upgrade passwords by "bumping" the site tag;
Upgrade a master key without updating all sites at once;
Supports different length passwords;
Supports special requirements, such as digits and punctuation;
Supports restricting a hash word to not use special characters.
No need to ever copy anything to the clipboard except to use a password outside of Chrome.

Plus Google Chrome specific additions:
Automatic memory of which password fields should be hashed;
Transparent/inline hashing in the password field, no need to copy or open a dialog.
Options page to set default preferences;

New in 1.5! A private key to make your passwords unique on your computer. (Use the "compatible:" prefix on a site tag to ignore the private key and remain compatible with the FireFox version.)
New in 1.8 Fixed support for two-level TLDs (like .co.uk)
New in 1.9 Added backup/restore patch from Oren Ben-Kiki
New in 1.9.4 Added portable HTML page with embedded site settings

When away from your home computer you may use the portable HTML page.

First time use:
1. Edit the password strength settings and the site tag with the # icon on the toolbar.
2. Click the # on a password field that should be hashed (or press Ctrl + #).

Normal use:
1. Type your password key in the password field as normal, but it will turn grey when hashed.
2. In most cases, you may press Enter to submit the form and login.

Advanced use:
* The 'a' button or Ctrl + * can be used to view the contents of the password field.
* When the password is revealed, pressing Ctrl + C will copy the hash value to the clipboard when in edit mode and no text is selected.

Changing your password:
1. Enter your passphrase into the "Old password" field as normal.
2. Click on the * or press 'Ctrl + *' to reveal the hash.
3. Click into the password field but select no text.
4. Copy the hash value by pressing 'Ctrl + c'.
5. Disable hashing by pressing the # button or typing 'Ctrl + #'.
6. Paste the hash value.
7. (Optional) Change your hash settings by using the # icon on the toolbar, e.x. click the "Bump" button.
8. Click the # button by the "New password" and "Confirm new password" fields to enable hashing.
9. Enter your new passphrase in the "New passward" and "Confirm new password" fields.
10. Click Submit to change your password.

What has inspired us?

Extore is a team of professionals who are passionate about creating extensions for web browsers. This devotion also gives us opportunity to appreciate work of other people. We get inspired by useful, open source extensions made by developers all over the world. Our strong belief is that one should share helpful add-ons with others. That’s why we’d like to present you our ever-growing list of favourite extensions that have inspired us. Moreover, as you probably have already learned, sometimes struggling for the best brings an end to the good. Talking about add-ons it often turns out that an upgrade is worse then previous version. Also it can become really tricky to get back to the beloved version of your favourite extension. That’s why we’re going to make not only the latest, but all versions of our favourite (and we hope yours too) add-ons available for download. No more compromises, just stick to the version you really like!
