UnhookedBrowsing is a Chrome extension that changes websites to not be obsessed about holding your attention for as long as possible.
Most content sites are incentivized to hold your attention for as long as possible since their revenue depends on it. This leads them to employ tactics on their sites that hold your attention for longer than you had intended to spend on them. This plugin reverse engineers these tactics to bring back power to you hands, so that you can more easily avoid tempting distractions on websites.
Some changes include:
- hiding Youtube suggestions and comments by default, and forcing you to make an active choice to consume them.
- when you landing on medium.com, you are asked if you are there to read / write. Based on your choice, you're taken to the right page. This helps prevent unwanted content consumption, but not even showing it to you.
