Description

Enjoy Firefox-style RSS Live Bookmarks!

For those who like Firefox "Live Bookmarks", this is a browser extension that provides a similar, even THE SAME, capability:

EITHER - you can read your feeds' headlines directly from a menu-style pop-up without having to go to the home page or a specialized reader,

OR you can set up REAL bookmark folders with REAL bookmarks a-la REAL Firefox Live Bookmarks.

Highlights:

* OPML import and export of subscription data
* Choose between using the rich Pop-up menu with visual "seen-state" hinting
OR standard Chrome bookmarks and bookmark folders
OR use BOTH!
* Configurable "visual hinting" options for each "seen-state".
* Bulk open actions.
* Keyboard shortcuts for navigating feeds and items
* Fully localized (Chinese, English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese,
and Swedish translations so far).
* And, Again, (for Anti-FUD) RSS Live Links DOES support REAL Chrome
Bookmark Folders with REAL bookmarks in them - just like Firefox Live
Bookmarks (and has done for ages).
* Can handle in excess of 400 feed subscriptions!

RSS Live Links can be registered as an RSS reader with the "RSS Subscriptions" and "RSS Subscriptions Plus" extensions, or use the built-in feed detection facility to subscribe to feeds found in current tabs.

User quote: "RSS Live Links is the only thing missing from Firefox now"!

Known issues:

* Windows 7 users MAY find that the Import/Export buttons don't work. This
appears to be a problem with the Win 7 version of Chrome itself (technically
the HTML 5 File System cannot be initialized). One user managed to get this
working by uninstalling Chrome and then re-installing it. Unfortunately, if you
try this you have no way to restore your RSS LL settings in your new Chrome
installation.
* Chrome 17 has introduced a bug whereby if a feed URL is in Google's
blacklisted site database, then the first update request to it, and then ALL
future update requests for ALL feeds, will hang (and consequently timeout).
This causes ALL updates to completely stop!
There is no solution other than to locate and remove the blacklisted feed
and then restart Chrome.

* Chrome bookmarks have certain behavioral restrictions due to the nature
of the Chrome extension bookmarks API. See the help documentation
for details.

One such restriction is that Google Chrome bookmark sync does not allow
you to disable syncing of certain folders, a feature that is necessary for the
good behaviour of RSS LL bookmark folders (they must NOT be synced).

HOWEVER, the XMarks extension DOES allow this - so, if you want
to use RSS LL bookmarks and syncing, I recommend XMarks.

* Note, this is a "browser" extension, not a "page" extension. Therefore
it CANNOT place an icon IN the title bar (e.g. for available feeds).

See the Release Notes and Help web pages (under "Support" on the "Details" tab) for detailed documentation and information pertaining to the latest changes.

What has inspired us?

Extore is a team of professionals who are passionate about creating extensions for web browsers. This devotion also gives us opportunity to appreciate work of other people. We get inspired by useful, open source extensions made by developers all over the world. Our strong belief is that one should share helpful add-ons with others. That’s why we’d like to present you our ever-growing list of favourite extensions that have inspired us. Moreover, as you probably have already learned, sometimes struggling for the best brings an end to the good. Talking about add-ons it often turns out that an upgrade is worse then previous version. Also it can become really tricky to get back to the beloved version of your favourite extension. That’s why we’re going to make not only the latest, but all versions of our favourite (and we hope yours too) add-ons available for download. No more compromises, just stick to the version you really like!
