Why ColorPin?
Personal online behavioral data is used and sold daily without user’s explicit knowledge. We believe that the first step towards gaining control over it is to be aware of data’s nature and structure. We are testing novel methods in visualization, in understanding and in sharing personal data. We believe that awareness and understanding is the first step towards controlling the data the users own.
The current goal is to parse out user’s browsing history into different knowledge domains each tagged with a specific color. Our ultimate idea is that ColorPin would be a color based map of knowledge and data the user interacts with.

How does it work?
This program produces an abstract color visualization of user's browsing history data. User’s browsing history will be accessed and then processed on the third party server. After the session is over all the data will immediately be deleted from the server.

Will creating and sharing the ColorPin affect user’s privacy?
The ColorPin will reveal a general nature of the data and knowledge the user interacted with - it will reveal it as a color map. We want to keep the map imprecise and intuitive. The goal of the ColorPin is to give the user a broad understanding of the data she/he owns and knowledge she/he interacts with. ColorPin can be kept private or can be shared and compared it with friends.

Who are we?
This project is related to the research conducted by Tobias Putrih, lecturer at M.I.T.’s Program in Art, Culture and Technology and Carlos Sandoval Olascoaga, PhD candidate from Design and Computation Group at M.I.T.

What has inspired us?

Extore is a team of professionals who are passionate about creating extensions for web browsers. This devotion also gives us opportunity to appreciate work of other people. We get inspired by useful, open source extensions made by developers all over the world. Our strong belief is that one should share helpful add-ons with others. That’s why we’d like to present you our ever-growing list of favourite extensions that have inspired us. Moreover, as you probably have already learned, sometimes struggling for the best brings an end to the good. Talking about add-ons it often turns out that an upgrade is worse then previous version. Also it can become really tricky to get back to the beloved version of your favourite extension. That’s why we’re going to make not only the latest, but all versions of our favourite (and we hope yours too) add-ons available for download. No more compromises, just stick to the version you really like!
