Satta King desawar started with speculation on the initial and final prices of cotton sent from the New York Cotton Exchange to the Bombay Cotton Exchange. It was banned in 1961 by the New York Cotton Exchange. Ratan Khatri then devised a new way of betting the initial and final prices of hypothetical products. Numbers were written on pieces of paper and then they were put in a pot. A person would pull out the chit and announce the winning number. Khatri's matka used to run from Monday to Friday while Kalyanji Bhagat's matka used to run seven days a week. People bet on matches to get rich quick. But, many times they also have to face defeat.
