JolieTab will give you high-res images on your new tab page.
It supports any resolution screen, but will generally err on the high res side.
Images Switch with every new tab.
By clicking on the settings cog you can change various settings including: editing the search query to get images related to your search and switching between a low-res mode where the images are forced into a lower resolution which are smaller and take up less bandwidth.
