Unlike other bookmark-tagging extensions out there, especially cloud-based ones, that manage their own databases for tags, this extension implements a bookmark-tagging feature by creating multiple bookmarks that point to the same URL under different folders and treating them as a single composite bookmark that has as many tags as its parent folders. In other words, "tags" that this extension offers are actually ordinary folders that are made to look like tags (or "fake" tags, if you will). This approach has the following advantages:
- You don't need to create tags from scratch after installing this extension.
- Your tags are synced by your browser (not by an untrusted third-party server).
- You don't lose your tags after uninstalling this extension.

Browser APIs used by this extension:
The following is a list of APIs (Application Programming Interface: a set of functionalities that the browser provides for extensions to accomplish their tasks) used by this extension.
"bookmarks"
The "bookmarks" API is used to implement a bookmark-tagging feature. As explained above, tagging a bookmark is the same thing as putting a bookmark into a folder in FakeTag.
"storage"
The "storage" API is used to store your preferences (extension options) and notes on bookmarked pages.
"activeTab"
The "activeTab" API is used to obtain the URL of a webpage loaded in the foreground tab when FakeTag's toolbar icon is clicked, and display bookmarks that point to it.
Extore is a team of professionals who are passionate about creating extensions for web browsers. This devotion also gives us opportunity to appreciate work of other people. We get inspired by useful, open source extensions made by developers all over the world. Our strong belief is that one should share helpful add-ons with others. That’s why we’d like to present you our ever-growing list of favourite extensions that have inspired us. Moreover, as you probably have already learned, sometimes struggling for the best brings an end to the good. Talking about add-ons it often turns out that an upgrade is worse then previous version. Also it can become really tricky to get back to the beloved version of your favourite extension. That’s why we’re going to make not only the latest, but all versions of our favourite (and we hope yours too) add-ons available for download. No more compromises, just stick to the version you really like!
