electricR (beta) is a revolutionary web-app for electric vehicles owners: it tells you when is the best time to charge your EV - carbon emission wise and money wise.
So yes, it is nice that electric vehicles have got lower impact on the environment than fossil fuel cars. However, did you know that the time you charge your EV is making a huge difference on the environment? Let us explain, first in simple words, and later on with a more professional explanation:
* When there is no wind, wind turbines don't produce power. A simple truth.
* At night, when the sun is down, electricity can't be generated from solar energy. A simple truth.
* In drought seasons, dams are low in water levels, so hydro stations do not produce power. A simple truth.
In such conditions, the grid is fed by power generated from burning of fossil fuels, and nuclear. It means that in some conditions, charging your EV is actually *bad* for the environment.
electricR free app is solving those issues: we connect to online data centers and calculate what is the best time to charge your EV, including 48 forecasts. Our forecasts are based on millions of real time data sources, mostly delivered to the grid by government agencies. But we do other data mining as well.
