- This extension only colors the icon as the tab background color cannot be changed via the Extension API.
Many know of the famous color tabs plugins for Mozilla Firefox. So why doesn't Chrome have any? In short, it's not supported to change the full background color; however through dynamic html5 techniques, it is possible to change the icon, and more specifically, the color or that icon.
Color Tabs allows you to quickly apply a color of your own choosing to any tab icon. Colors are matched by linked tabs or pages with the same domain. It also allows you to change the color intensity and contrast for all tabs.
