Sunlight, broadly defined, is electromagnetic radiation from all the spectrum of the sun. On Earth, the sun is clearly when the sun is above the horizon, and the solar radiation that illuminates the Earth's surface through the Earth's atmosphere is called daylight.

The definition of "sunshine time" by the World Meteorological Organization means that the irradiance of sunlight directly received by an area is above 120 watts per square meter.
The time of sun exposure can be recorded using a sunlight video recorder, an all-sky radiometer or a pyranometer. It takes 8.3 minutes for the sun to reach the Earth from the sun.
