In geometry, a hexagon is a polygon with six sides and six vertices with an internal angle of 720 degrees. There are many kinds of hexagons, and the most symmetrical is the regular hexagon. A regular hexagon is a hexagon that can be drawn using a ruler, or it can be flattened, so many regular hexagonal structures such as honeycomb, basalt, and benzene can be found in nature. In addition, a regular hexagon can also form some highly symmetrical polyhedrons, such as a truncated icosahedron, and the molecular structure of Buckminster fullerenes is such a shape.
Hexagons can be divided into convex hexagons and non-convex hexagons according to their angular properties, wherein the convex hexagons represent that all interior angles are less than 180 degrees. The non-convex hexagon may be further divided into a concave hexagon and a star hexagon, wherein the star hexagon represents a hexagon in which the edges self intersect.
